Lunch || Mangia

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I had lunch in Mangia, Panglima Polim in South Jakarta. Actually, it wasn't the first time I've been there. I decided to revisit the cafe since it now offers new addition to their menu: fruit bowls! I just LOVE fruit bowls! Not only they're healthy, but fruit bowls are also amazingly delightful! Please excuse the exclamation marks, it's just that I get really excited every time I managed to find a restaurant or cafe that serve fruit bowls in Jakarta as it is somewhat difficult to find one in the region.

Mangia is one of those cute petite cafes filled with pastel colored furniture. The terrace, however, has a different furniture theme. Several pots were hanged at the ceiling and wooden themed tables and chairs were neatly arranged at the terrace. David and I decided to sit at the front terrace outside the main entrance since the weather was clear and bright. Despite the lack of selection on their menu, most of the items looked extraordinary and appetizing!

Without further prolong, here are what we ordered:
For drinks, I ordered a bottle of mineral water while David went for one of their unique drinks called "Skippy". It's a mix of Skippy peanut butter, espresso, chocolate chip ice cream, coke, and hazelnut. Believe it or not, it didn't taste as good as it may sound. I'd say that too much is going on in the glass. The taste of the ingredients overwhelmed one another that I couldn't even tell what I drank if I didn't read it on the menu.

Next, I ordered Honolulu for the fruit bowl. It's basically a delightful bowl of peanut butter, banana, chia seeds and granola. I have to say that it's stunningly delicious! The savory, creamy peanut butter, fresh banana, crunchy granola and chia seed.. The taste of the ingredients surely compliment each other! It was very filling that I didn't manage to finish the whole bowl on my own.

As for the entree, David initially wanted to order the grilled chicken pesto rice, but it was not available. So he went for the butter rice with apple dory salsa instead. Regretfully, the dory is utterly disappointing. It was bland. The rice and broccoli that came along with it were quite nice though.

Last but not least, dessert! Even though I was very full, there is always a room for dessert. I decided to try their chocolate pie since it looked very tempting on the menu. Unfortunately, I was totally disappointed on how it turned out. At first, I personally thought that the white layer was supposed to be white chocolate mousse, but it turned out to be shaved iced which is bland and ended up wrecking the overall taste of the pie.

All in all, it was a nice and cozy place to hang out at, but the only item from their menu that I would recommend is their fruit bowl.
