Afternoon Tea || The Orchid Conservatory

A couple of weeks ago, I traveled along with David and his parents for a short getaway to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As I was planning for the trip, I came across the Orchid Conservatory at the Majestic Hotel. The Orchid Conservatory is basically a beautiful, exquisite glass atrium filled with dazzling orchids, and guests are welcomed to enjoy afternoon tea in this luxurious setting. It looks astonishingly elegant!

I was one week away from going to KL when I discovered the place. I quickly decided to email the hotel to make a reservation for two since David's parents wouldn't be joining us. I was so eager to get there--until I got their reply. They implied that reservation should be made at least 2 weeks ahead of time. With tiny little hope, I replied them explaining that I am a foreigner and asking for consideration under the circumstance. In the end, they understood the whole situation and decided to give an exception and take my reservation! Hooray!

On the day of the reservation, David and I planned to get to the Majestic Hotel either by bus or monorail. Unfortunately, we were running late so we decided to go by taxi instead. We stayed in an apartment in KL and it took us around 20 minutes to reach in the Majestic Hotel. As we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff, dressed in crisp white colonial attire. The ambiance of the hotel itself was also splendid. It is by far definitely one of the prettiest hotel I've ever been to! We were then guided to the Orchid Conservatory to have our afternoon tea.

Once we were outside the Orchid Conservatory, a courteous, friendly waiter opened the door for us, greeted us heartily, and promptly escorted us to our seat. The first thing that caught my eyes right after we sat was this plate filled with beautiful sugar crystal sticks placed on the table. It was so pretty! Every single thing about the room was highly appealing. The delicate hardware, beautiful blooming orchids, lovely flowers on the table, clean scent, everything! Even though it was smaller than I had imagined, the room was just stunning!

We were then provided with various selections of tea flavors to choose from. I opted for the chamomile, while David went for the green tea. Afterward, the waiter placed the tea pots on top of the metal containers with burning candles inside to keep the tea warm. The waiter then placed a classic tea timer on the table and informed us that we had to wait until all the sand had flowed down to the bottom of the hourglass for the tea to be served for the best flavor. How posh!

As soon as it was ready, the waiter started to pour the tea to the cups. I decided to take photographs of the process. Afterward, David laughed and pointed out to me that the waiter deliberately slowed down the pouring and he would only stop pouring when I stopped taking photos! Thank you Mr. Waiter, that was considerate!

After quite a while, we were served with a round three-tiered tray filled with delicious-looking foods. The tray consisted of dainty finger sandwiches, appetizing scones, as well as a range of tempting sweet treats! Not only that, the waiter also served us with a copper tray. At first, I honestly thought that there would be small hot towels inside, but it turned out to be more foods!

As the waiter suggested, we started with the scones since they were best served warm. The scones were adorned with mixed-berry jam and clotted cream. They were scrumptious and they certainly went along very well with both the mixed-berry jam as well as the clotted cream! If I were to choose, I personally preferred the mixed-berry jam, whereas David favored the clotted cream, I have to say that the scones were very filling as I was quite full already after eating a single scone.

Next was the dainty finger sandwiches. They were delicious! The breads were soft and the fillings were superb!

Meanwhile, the copper tray was filled with homemade savories with Asian twist. The savories were well-seasoned and tasty!

Last but not least, sweet treats! I cannot refrain from saying that all of them were delightful! My favorite of all was the cheesecake. It was rich, soft, sweet, and delicate! I wished they had served more of it.

One thing that I have to point out about the Majestic Hotel is that the hotel unquestionably gave me an outstanding impression. The service was phenomenal, the orchid conservatory was beautiful, and the food was marvelous. It was truly a wonderful experience! If you ever come to Kuala Lumpur, I would highly recommend visiting the Majestic Hotel to have your afternoon tea. I, myself, would love to come back there again someday :)
